LeVar N Burke, Esq.

LeVar Burke is admitted to the New York State Bar as an attorney and counselor at law and also has an MPA in policy analysis and program evaluation. Not only is he trained as a lawyer, manager, and policy analyst, Mr. Burke is also a college administrator and an adjunct assistant professor in The City University of New York at Medgar Evers College, in Brooklyn, NY, teaching business policy and strategic planning.

His academic research has examined college and law school diversity admissions policies, case history and legal analysis; in addition to the financing of public primary and secondary schools in New York State, its legal history and in in-depth analysis of various states’ funding schemes.  Further, Mr. Burke has also worked on issues related to educational institutions’ adherence to the various civil rights acts and homeless education legislation.  For five years, he held appointed office, in which he adjudicated appeals from applicants denied permits by the Yonkers Department of Housing and Buildings Commissioner.  He was nominated by Mayor Amicone and confirmed unanimously by the City Council as the youngest member to hold the position in the Zoning Board of Appeals’s history.

Mr. Burke has extensive board service and training experience.  He served on the inaugural Leadership Board for the Council of Urban Professionals (CUP), where he and his colleagues were charged with driving the mission of CUP, and to develop “diverse business and civic leaders…increase opportunities for minority and women businesses, encourage diversity at all levels of our society, and invest in the future of our children.”  Mr. Burke also served as a board member for the Brooklyn Steppers, an organization committed to providing students with pathways to college through unique performance opportunities of an HBCU styled marching band.

Mr. Burke currently serves on the Advisory Board for The LAGRANT Foundation, an organization whose mission is to “increase the number of ethnic minorities in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations by providing scholarships, career development workshops, professional development, mentors and internships to…undergraduate and graduate students”.  He is currently a board member select for the Easter Seals of the Hudson Valley, expected to be seated in April 2013.

LeVar Nathaniel Burke, Esq. has earned a doctorate of jurisprudence (J.D.) from the University at Buffalo, where he served as the President of the Student Bar Association and as a member of the Board of Trustees for Sub Board I, Inc., which is the largest student owned and run company in America.  He also holds a masters in public administration from Baruch College, and a bachelors in history from Morehouse College.  He has also completed an executive management program conducted by the 4A’s and the Center for Excellence in Advertising at Howard University’s John H. Johnson School of Communications.
